Advances in-store media measurement with Bluetooth detection of both smartphones and beacons

MENLO PARK, CA, UNITED STATES, October 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — BlueZoo Inc., a leader in privacy-friendly impressions measurement technology, today announced its Fall 2026 product release, advancing its ability to measure “Verified Impressions”, now with Bluetooth. BlueZoo pairs the presence of people with individual video advertising plays, the standard defined by the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) framework for in-store media measurement.

The IAB framework outlines three essential components, known as the Three Ps, for establishing a verified in-store media impression: Play, confirming that an advertisement was delivered and logged; Presence, establishing that a shopper was within the advertisement’s zone of influence; and Pairing, connecting the ad play with shopper presence at the same time. With this release, BlueZoo combines its established passive Wi-Fi measurement capabilities, expanded Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) analytics, and scalable cloud infrastructure to support Presence and Pairing for in-store advertising environments.

Supporting IAB Presence & Pairing
BlueZoo measures the presence of people within signage viewsheds using passive microwave technology, detecting signals spontaneously broadcast by smartphones without requiring a mobile app or collecting personally identifiable information. BlueZoo reports impression counts correlated with individual ad plays, quantifying for advertisers and retail media network operators how many people were present in the signage viewshed when the advertisement ran. This capability makes BlueZoo’s audience measurement consistent with the IAB’s framework for verified in-store impressions.

BLE complements rather than replaces Wi-Fi. The combination of Wi-Fi and BLE enables measurement across different advertising formats. Passive Wi-Fi covers large viewsheds, detects both Android and iOS smartphones, and supports unique visitor and shopper journey analysis. BLE adds finer-temporal-grain measurement in smaller detection zones where audiences may remain for only a few seconds. Together, the two technologies help retailers measure presence and associate it with ad plays across a wide range of in-store media environments.

BLE Delivers Real-Time Impressions Analytics
The Fall 2026 release introduces real-time impressions metrics made possible by BLE. Because smartphones that broadcast BLE probes do so more frequently than they transmit Wi-Fi probes, BLE can provide greater precision when measuring short dwell times and faster-moving audiences.

These capabilities are particularly valuable for small-format digital advertising displays, including in-aisle retail media, endcaps, checkout lanes, and kiosks. In these environments, a shopper may pass through a display’s viewshed in just a few seconds, changing what’s necessary for precise measurement.

Signage operators can now access live, up-to-the-minute impressions and occupancy metrics from BLE sensors alongside historical analytics, for BLE and Wi-Fi, recorded in BlueZoo’s BigQuery data warehouse. Historical reporting includes BLE-specific impressions, occupancy, and dwell time distributions, giving operators both an immediate view of audience activity and the ability to analyze performance over time.

Shopper Journey and Attribution with BLE Beacons
Retailers including supermarkets, big-box stores, and drugstores can attach BLE beacons to shopping baskets/carts and follow these beacons to measure a shopper’s journey through a store. BLE beacons emit an unchanging device address for more than one year based on a small battery, making them simple to deploy and easy to follow without ongoing maintenance.

BlueZoo’s Fall 2026 provides full support for reporting shopper journeys associated with the movement of shopping baskets/carts with beacons through a physical store. The same functionality permits sales attribution at point-of-sale registers.

Platform Upgrades Strengthen Measurement Across BlueZoo’s Ecosystem
Delivering reliable Presence and Pairing requires more than detecting smartphones or beacons. It also depends on well-calibrated sensors, clearly delimited detection zones, and reliable processing of high-volume data. BlueZoo’s Fall 2026 release upgrades the systems supporting these workflows.

The redesigned dashboard makes it easy to monitor large sensor networks composed of both Wi-Fi and BLE sensors. For the first time, the dashboard delivers real-time analytics based on BLE sensor measurements. Updated calibration tools, clear status indicators for Wi-Fi and BLE, and improved sensor management make it even easier to manage deployments across locations.

BlueZoo’s upgraded mobile app (available on iOS & Android) refines sensor deployment and calibration, alongside improvements including biometric login, enhanced camera tools, and BLE environment surveys. These capabilities make it easy for operators to locate, deploy, and manage both proprietary BlueZoo hardware and supported third-party platforms.

Underpinning these improvements, BlueZoo’s cloud infrastructure now delivers faster data processing, more reliable synchronization, and improved handling of sensor hardware swaps, ensuring your historical analytics remain uninterrupted even if you need to replace a physical sensor.

Together, the Fall 2026 release advances BlueZoo’s commitment to privacy-first audience measurement with more immediate insights, a simpler user experience, and a more scalable platform for measuring audiences for in-store media.
